Create engaging, cross-platform rich Internet applications

Rich Internet Applications produce eye-popping results because they stand tall against the swarm of ordinary Internet applications.

Adobe’s innovative tools like Flex, Adobe AIR™ and Flash and more enable you to combine rich motion, video, imaging, and sound creating the rich experience. And that’s not all; Adobe makes sure that your Rich Internet Applications run smoothly on millions of PC’s and Internet devices. The Adobe® Flash® Player runtime reaches 98% of Internet-enabled computers and more than 450 million devices, offering you greater reach than with any other client technology available.

Adobe AIR™, the latest client from Adobe, leverages the power of Flash Player while adding the capability to deploy RIAs directly to the desktop.

Apollo for Adobe Flex Developers Pocket Guide by Mike Chambers, Rob Dixon, Jeff Swartz

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Guys I must say that this is an awesome gift for all of us.

Apollo for Adobe Flex Developers Pocket Guide Mike Chambers, Rob Dixon, Jeff Swartz explains how to build and deploy Flash-based Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) to the desktop using Adobe’s Flex framework. This book describes concisely how Apollo works, and offers numerous examples for those who want to start building RIAs for the desktop right away.

Why put RIAs on the desktop? They’re already supposed to offer the responsiveness of desktop programs. Unfortunately, web browsers were designed to deliver and display HTML-based documents, not applications. The conflict between document- and application-focused functionality creates several problems when deploying applications via the browser.

Adobe Apollo gives you the best of both worlds — the web development model and true desktop functionality. This pocket guide explains how to:

  • Set up your development environment
  • Create your first application
  • Use the File I/O API
  • Use HTML within Flex-based Apollo applications
  • Use the included Apollo mini-cookbook for common tasks

The book also includes a guide to Apollo packages, classes, and command-line tools. Once you understand the basics of building a Flex-based Apollo application, this pocket guide makes an ideal reference for tackling specific problems.

Can we say Adobe Flex 2 is more demanding than Java 2 & .net in few areas :)

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

It looks that the demand for Adobe Flex 2 skills across the world is exponentially increasing. Based on the facts which shows the rates in UK with a comparison to our Application Development category.

Contracts and Contractors Rate for Adobe Flex 2 Developers
:) The interesting fact is  Flex 2 developers demand and rates are increased by 60% while Java rates are still unchanged, at least it shows by the data provided here Contracts and Contractors Rate for Java Developers

The same thing is with .Net as well it has increased its rates by just 4%. Contracts and Contractors Rate for .Net Developers

Last week I met with John Koch, Adobe Relation Manager, Asia Pac and Puneet, Sr. Product Manager (Flex)  on a face to face discussion on various aspects of Flex and Adobe technologies. I can say that the way Adobe guys are putting their best to change the techno world, the day is no more longer to come when we will have a true platform for Rich Internet Application development, which will be beneficial for both developer as well as the end user.

Salesforce released Flex API for Apex

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Salesforce.com and Adobe announced this week the Flex Toolkit for Apex(SalesForce SaaS app) which allows Flex-driven Flash applications to be integrated into Salesforce apps. is a great news for rich Internet application application developers and now their apps can deliver information through an on-demand enterprise platform.

Third-party Flex applications are packaged-up and served from the Salesforce servers and so no additional infrastructure is needed. The toolkit shares the same single sign-on as the a regular Salesforce app which makes the experience more seamless.

Salesforce also released documentation and guidelines for developers.

Hmmm this seems a great combination as recently salesforce tied up with Google Gears and now with flex to leverage the real essence of Web2.0.

his toolkit also supports the current alpha 1 release of Adobe’s Apollo.
